Hadi being probed over 'Islam's sanctity' statement, says IGP

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman has begun an investigation of PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over his statement about "Islam's sanctity".

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that police have opened an investigation over the matter and would be calling the Marang MP for questioning.

"We are investigating the case under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 as well as the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"We have not called in him for questioning yet as he is currently unwell," he said on Friday (March 1), according to Sinar Harian.

Hadi's statement, titled "Ketinggian Islam Wajib Dipertahankan (Islam's sanctity must be defended)", had incurred the ire of the Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who called the statement “disrespectful” as it appeared to be directed at the Malay Rulers following the Federal Court's recent decision against a few provisions in Kelantan's Shariah Criminal Law Enactment.
